Homemade holiday treats for dogs

Homemade holiday treats will help keep your dog from the table begging for scraps. Sharing your sugary biscuits, Christmas cake or chocolate treats could endanger his life; try this dog-friendly recipe instead.


  • 2 cups fresh sweet potato puree
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 3 cups whole wheat flour
  • 3 tablespoons all natural peanut butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon


1. Preheat oven to 176C.
2. Peel and cube 2 medium sweet potatoes and bring to boil. Simmer 15-20 mins until soft. Drain cooked potatoes and puree using a blender.
3. In a small bowl, stir together flour, oats and cinnamon.
4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, sweet potato and peanut butter until combined. Stir wet ingredients into the dry.
5. Pour onto a floured surface and roll dough out ¼ to 3/8 thick. Cut out using a Christmas cookie cutter.
6. Bake for 30 – 35 mins until golden brown.
7. Place on cooling racks to cool thoroughly.
