Spotty the fox terrier cross is a celebrity in the Karoo town of Prince Albert after his story appeared in the District Mail newspaper in Somerset West.
The lively dog’s foreleg was badly broken and mauled after he was run down by a truck but thanks to the quick actions of Prince Albert Animal Dieresorg/Animal Welfare (PADS) volunteers Spotty was rushed to Country Animal Clinic in Somerset West where Dr Hilldidge Beer amputated the leg. Dr Beer offered to do the surgery as there are no veterinary services in Prince Albert with only basic primary health care for animals offered by PADS volunteers.
A delighted Spotty was spoiled rotten by Country staff, especially Marissa Vosloo who quickly fell for his charms, but his owner Mr Boet Claassen was equally delighted to have the dog home.
Yesterday PADS presented Mr Claassen with a framed copy of Spotty’s newspaper story and a very excitable Spotty thanked everyone for the attention by jumping onto laps and into the car of PADS volunteers.
