South Africa’s Sunflower Fund, which raises awareness and educates people about the need for bone marrow donors, asks all South Africans to buy sunny ‘topes’ today.
The ‘tope’, or Tube of Hope, is a multipurpose article of clothing for the whole family. It can be worn as a headband, mask, scarf, cap or armband. Purchasing and wearing your ‘tope’ signifies your support for SA’s Bone Marrow Registry (SABMR) and raises desperately needed funds.
Sunflower Day is celebrated on the third Friday of September annually. The Tope is available in small (R20.00 incl VAT) and large (R25.00 incl VAT) and is on sale at Pick n Pay stores nationwide, Round Table, selected ICPA pharmacies and the online store, Zando, while stocks last.
You can help celebrate Sunflower Day by purchasing your Tope and posting an image of you (and your friends), wearing it creatively, on The Sunflower Fund’s Facebook page to show support for this important cause.
The Sunflower Fund, a National Non-Profit Company (NPC), is an organisation in South Africa dedicated to creating awareness, educating the public and handling the registration process for people to join the South African Bone Marrow Registry (SABMR). The Sunflower Fund pays for the test cost of people joining the SABMR.
By increasing the number of donors listed on the national database, this offers hope to those diagnosed with leukaemia and other life-threatening blood disorders. Higher numbers on the Registry increase their chance of finding matching stem cell donors in order to undergo life-saving stem cell transplants.
